English Scholarly Translation

Upon the northern road toward the barren Yan borderlands, only distant white clouds mark the horizon. Cold frost-winds sweep across my ancestral realm, while the thoughts of a lonely captive wander without end.

Paleography & Woodblock Anatomy Notes

Carved in sharp, solemn regular script (*Haeseo*). Notice the deep incision of the character '故國' (Ancestral Realm), reflecting profound sorrow over the Qing captivity.
