Preserving Clan Heritage, Illuminating Korean History
An authoritative digital journal, open-access genealogical knowledge graph, and historical repository dedicated to documenting the multi-century legacy of the Andong Kim clan (안동 김씨) and its deep intertwining with the broader political, intellectual, and cultural development of Korea.
Who We Are & What We Do
AndongKim.org was established as an independent historical and genealogical initiative to address a fundamental gap in digital Korean historiography: bridging the specific, intricate family history of the Andong Kim clan with the broader national narrative of Korea.
Rather than treating genealogy as isolated family trees or dry lists of ancestors, AndongKim.org presents a living historical knowledge system. Here, every historical figure, military victory, philosophical treaty, and political debate is cross-referenced against primary dynastic annals—illuminating how one of Korea's foremost lineages helped steer the nation across more than a millennium.
From the heroic 10th-century defense at the Battle of Gochang that established the Goryeo dynasty, through the moral resistance of Kim Sang-heon during the Qing invasion, the defense of Jinju Fortress by Kim Si-min during the Imjin War, the 19th-century Sedo political era, and the modern diaspora—our archive provides rigorous, accessible, and beautifully presented historical scholarship for researchers, students, and descendants worldwide.
Our Core Scholarly Pillars
We maintain clear, unambiguous distinction between the Old (Gu, 舊) Andong Kim lineage descending from Silla Prince Kim Suk-seung, and the New (Shin, 新) Andong Kim lineage founded by Goryeo Lord Kim Seon-pyeong.
Every biographical claim, date, and lineage relationship is verified against primary sources—including the Joseon Wangjo Sillok (Annals), Seungjeongwon Ilgi, and verified Daedongbo genealogical archives.
Our dynamic digital database bi-directionally cross-links articles, historical figures, generations, ancestral villages (Hahoe, Taesamyo), and chronological milestones into an interconnected web of history.
Preserving cultural heritage belongs to the commons. Our research, timelines, genealogical guides, and translations are completely open and accessible to learners and historians across the globe.
